ok, now I am having a problem. I have tried 2 ways, nothing yet. Will elaborate: First I wanted to connect my all-in-one running windows 8 and JandsVista 2.2 to my laptop running Windows 7 with Polar Capture on it via an eathernet (cat-5) cable. I have easily networked these 2 machines before and share files all the time between them! Secondly I setup the loopback adapter on both machines in hopes that I could run an external monitor and just use 1 machine for both jands and polar. Nothing... I read this thread, tried everything there, checked to see if i should run one program first, or it favored one machine over the over.... no matter what I try I get the same result: No connections appear in Polar Capture. One thing I should mention: I am not running any console with this... just computer to computer and also I do not have a dongle I can bring home with me from the shop BUT from what I understand, I should at least get 10 minutes of connection before it locks up, so I can test if it will work when I pop into the shop to play with lights... *sigh* I hope this all makes sense.. I really hope you guys can help me!

I should also mention that I would like to be able to use BOTH the loopback adapter and computer to computer connection as well. Not sure if there is some kind of special settings for the loopback adapter. (I am going to try to connect it with GrandMA but I really hope I do not have to use that cause GrandPA gets jealous!!)

I might have the solution. I take it that I need a crossover cat-5 cable to connect 2 computers, but I still have the loopback adapter issue to solve. if I am wrong about the crossover cable, please inform me! thanks. I hope i can solve this is a day or so!

The loopback adapter is only relevant on a computer that is not attached to any network at all and when you want applications within that computer to communicate with eachother using network protocols.

If a computer is attached to a network (any other network equipment really, but it a DSL mode, switch/hub or just another computer using a crossover cable) then the loopback adapter is irrelevant.

Lampe I have a JandsVista S1 running on a MacbookPro, and no problems at all with Capture on the same machine or using 2 computers. You should try to use the "Streaming ACN" instead of "Artnet" in the "DMX connections" window of the Vista 2, it works very well with Capture. You have to go to the Patch window, then click on "Connect Universes", the "DMX Connections" window opens and there you have to select "Add network Connection" and select "ACN Streaming" to patch Universe 1. You will be able to use Vista 2 on the same machine as Capture witch is very nice. Good luck. Philippe

Hey Capture Forum People,

I'm currently using the Student Version of Capture and cannot get smooth fades between cues through ArtNet. I'm also seeing fixtures that are not in a cue, flashing to full then out, half a second later, during these fades. I'm also seeing random flashes without playing the cue(s).

This hookup is computer-to-computer via cat5 direct. Both machines are PC one of which is using Win7 OS and the other Win8 OS.

Off Line Editor is EOS v2.1.2 and Cpature v2.11.23. I have tried Win7 machine's OLE to Win8 machine's capture and Win8 machine's OLE to Win7's capture, and ending up with the same result.

All Firewalls are down and tried a different Cat5 cable, but still chunky step fades. Both computers have a lot of muscle in VRAM & CPU speeds.

However, when I connect the ION (running v2.1.2) to the Win7 machine via Cat5 EDMX, the fades are smooth as can be, and no random flashes from uncontrolled fixtures.

What are your thoughts on this matter, and have I left something out of this equation that you can help me with?

Capture is wonderful program and I'm enjoying it immensely even if it's the Student Version. I will eventually go for the good stuff.

Cheers,

Hello John.

Just to clear things up before the support team gets in contact.

Did you monitor your artnet with something like http://www.lightjams.com/artnetominator/ on your capture computer?

Regards

Alexander

Hi John,

I believe ETC have chosen to output Art-Net at a lower refresh rate from the offline editors in order to prevent live shows from being run with it. That would be consistent with your description as well. The best way to find out would be to check with ETC support.

Hi Alexander,

I've hooked up ArtNetominator, and the only thing I'm seeing is Capture in the "Nodes" window with "No Activity Detected" elsewhere. I've ran cues and seen no change to data within the program while connected to the visualizer and OLE. Am I missing something?

Best

Johnny
