    New System

I have inherited a system at my new job. The venue has a SmartFade 2496. The board has not been used much because no one knows how to control it and the original programmer is long gone. So we just use the couple of stacks that are programmed.I have been watching tutorials and reading the manual, so I have a pretty good understanding of how it works. What I plan on doing is swapping the ETC Smartfade for an ETC ColorSource 40 AV that I have. The ColorSource console came with a bunch of ETC lights I purchased from a church that got new equipment.

Because I am very busy when at work, I want to be able to practice and work through the programming at home. I have a SketchUp drawing of the stage/club and just need a visualizer. I only use Apple computers, so this somewhat limits my options.

I have been looking at Capture and think this program will do everything I need, but I am unsure if it is possible to use it how I would like. I want to connect the ColorSource Simulator to Capture Duet (2 Universe) and program the lights while at home.

I am hoping someone can tell me if this is possible, and the basic steps to make it work.

    • Can both software run on the same computer or do I need to putter on separate laptops?
    • Are there any additional pieces of equipment I need for the connection?

P.S. In case it is not clear, I am very new to all of this Lighting stuff.

Thank you for and advice or direction you can provide.

I don't see why not. I would advice to use at least two screens and make sure you are connected to some sort of network when running it on one Mac. They do get funny if not connected at all.

Thank you Florian. I would not have thought to connect to my network. I think I will run each program on a separate laptop connected to the same network, and see if I can get them connected. I will post my progress tomorrow.
