The demo version of Capture has been downloaded by more than 30 000 people during the past fifteen years. We have received a lot of requests for a working version for students, and as we always listen to our users we have now created the Capture Polar Student Edition. It´s for free!

I just downloaded the student edition to see what the limitations are since they are not fully listed anywhere in detail on the site. When I ran the program there was no library so I couldn't set up a stage or set up lights or anything. I tried to import the library file but it didn't show up after I restarted the program. It also wouldn't open any of my previous save files as well. I use the basic version and want to know what all the limitations are for the student version. I like the program and would like to be able to recommend it to students I work with.

    Hi stagedude,

I'm troubled to hear that the library doesn't update for you! If you could e-mail us some details (such as OS, does it crash or simply do nothing?) to support@ maybe we can sort it out!

As for the limitations, they are explained on the download page.

I have also downloaded and installed the student version, an issue I am running into is the software crashing when I try to access certain menus or views in the library/design window. Another problem is that fixtures will not emit any light to emulate 'looks' onstage. (I am running a Windows 7 Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor with 6 gb of ram). I am thinking the last 'issue' is just one of the limitations of the student version, but I was looking for lighting fixtures manufactured by Blizzard Lighting? Specifically the Puck Q12/A, Torrent 90, and NorthStar Quantum Pro. Thanks, much appreciation!

    Hi theatergeek92,

You should definitely be able to output light from fixtures - this is no limitation. I would recommend updating your graphics card drivers!

As for the fixtures you mention, the Student Edition intentionally comes with a limited library. The fixtures you refer to are available in the full version of course!

    ear lars!

thx for providing a student version of capture, this is really great!!!!!
i cant tell how much i apprechiate the support from you!!!

its already installed and runs perfect!
the only thing that isnt working is the connection with the chamsys system!!

i already have installed the demoversion: capture is receiving data correctly and everythin is running!!!
if i switch to the student version nothing is happening!!
it doesnt even get any art net information!
if switch back to the demo version everything works great!
is there any different between the two version in terms of the conectivity? i checked out the downloadsite but there i couldnt find a clue either!!!

    what do you think???

    with best regards

    Hi dasgegenlicht,

    There shouldn't be any difference between the two, but it's possible that you've found a bug. However, would you please first check;

    a) that you don't have a firewall that is letting only one of them pass through
    b) try restarting the computer and open only the Student Edition (sometimes rapidly shifting between applications can fail because of resources locked in the system)
