    Hello,

I have been playing around with importing models drawn in Google Sketchup into Capture, before I decide to upgrade to Extended Edition.

I have an issue maintaining the dimensions of the object and was looking for a little guidance please.

With Sketchup I am exporting the object as a .dae file. Then I am using Autodesk converter to change this to a .dxf format, which I am them importing into Capture.

When importing into Capture, there is a parameter I can change which affects the final object size, but I do not seem to be able to find a simple relationship to maintain the exact dimensions of the original.

I am sure I am doing something wrong here and any help would be much appreciated thanks.

    Hi Colin,

I believe this was sorted out in an e-mail conversation, but for the sake of completeness..

A problem with the dxf / dwg formats is that they are not properly scale-aware. The rule of thumb is: transfer the drawing unit to Capture, such that if "1" in AutoCad represents "1 m", you should use "1 m" in Capture. Similarly if it was "1 mm" then you should use that.

    Hi Lars,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't have any email conversation with yourselves over this matter??? Perhaps it was someone else?

I did try using the 1 to 1 conversion, which seemed quite logical, but the end result was a scaled down model, but not by a simple factor of 10, or 100. I expect this comes from the fact that I was converting to an intermediate format prior to ending up as a DXF.

Not to worry, I can soon play with the scale to correct it in Capture.

    Cheers
