I have a layer which has a curtain on it which forms a front cloth for a show, and a differnet layer which is forming the set for another scene.

these are removed from a layer set so they are not "visable" in the view. except that I see the shadow of the set on the floor, and the beams will not go through the curtain even though its not on display.

am I missing a setting to remove these completely from the view.?

    Hi martinp,

Showing and hiding layers doesn't affect their physical presence in the simulation. You can hide objects individually though, using their 'Hidden' setting. This will rid the shadow as well.

I just wonder why this is so ?
When I have a lot of hidden layers it's annoying to search my way through them to find out what the h... makes that shadow.

When do we want shadows from invisible objects ?
Couldn't hidden layers automatically get hidden objects ?

If I set the objects in the hidden layer to hidden to get rid of the shadow, next time I need that layer and show it, I wonder why doesn't my objects show....until I remember I hid them....

    Hi,

The concept of Layers (at least in Capture) has got nothing to do with physical presence or visibility, it is merely a viewing filter used during the design process. If you wish to simulate the effect of objects changing their physical location or presence, then Scenes is what you want to be using.

One big difference between Layers and Scenes is that you can have each view in a different Layer Set, while the current Scene is a global setting. Also, each object can individually be set whether it is included in Scenes or not, offering a higher level of visibility and position granularity.
