Hello, we are evaluating Capture Polar for our college. While we have had much success there is one little snag I need to clear up to move forward with the project.

I have downloaded your latest software for my newish iMac (10.7.5). We use Emulation/Cuelux for our lighting software. No matter what we do, we using Capture Polar on a Mac, we cannot get it to see the Emulation external universes. However, when using Capture Polar on the same Mac under Windows VMware (bridged networking), CP works great and see the universe. It seems that when running under Windows, we can use Emulation/Cuelux from the same Mac, another Mac, A different PC, the same PC (on the VM), we pretty much can't get it to fail when CP is running on a PC. However, nothing we can do seems to make the CP see external universes when running from a Mac. We have tried several different Macs with several versions of the OS, it always fails when running on a Mac.

We would love to buy this product but unfortunately we have to make it work on a Mac (all of our labs are Apple), any help getting it to work would be greatly appreciated.

You may not have seen this in the manual. It might be the solution to your problem.

Under "Problems with Networking with Mac OS X"

"If you are experiencing problems connecting Capture to your console or offline
software under Mac OS X, it may be worth turning on an off the Mac OS X firewall.
This is done in the System Preferences, under Security & Privacy."

    I hope it helps!

Thanks, we saw that in the manual and gave it a try. It's been the culprit of problems on other software products but unfortunately the fix wasn't that easy for this issue.

We did some more troubleshooting and have further details. CP works just fine on Mountain Lion systems and picks up AN universes as it should. However, Lion systems (which is still our platform) does not work, pretty much with any Mac we've tried.

    Suggestions?

    Hi messenger82,

This is very difficult to diagnose, but my first question is to which network the ArtNet is broadcasted (the "standard" IP network in your environment or the "ArtNet" 10.0.0.0 or 2.0.0.0 networks?). If it's broadcasting to another network then the IP of your Mac, then you may need to add an extra IP address to your configuration.

Thanks Lars. It's great to know that the Capture team monitors the forums.

It's broadcasting to the standard IP network in our environment. We have tested this both with our public IP network and a closed sandbox network of 192.168's. All devices in both cases are on the same subnet.

I would advise you to involve the network technician of your college. Chances are if your computers have multiple IP addresses (the "public" and the "sandbox" network) that the broadcast is sent from the "public" to the "sandbox" network, ie a directed broadcast. If the network router doesn't support / isn't configured for this then the ArtNet packets will be either lost (probably not if it works on PC) but at least arrive as sent from the wrong network (the router needs to "rewrite" the packet so it appears to come from the network it's destined for) or the Mac will ignore the packets. Unfortunately this is just the kind of headache you get with ArtNet. If you can, try to use streaming ACN instead.
