    Hey there,

I´m relative new to polare capture and working with a student version.
I´m trying to draw a huge church in Basel, Swizz. Therfore I have to draw a lot of archs.
When I put an arch into the screen from library it´s eliptical and in the properties I have (mixed values) for span; in my German translation it says "Spannweite: (gemischte Werte)"
When I´m trying to change that I can only type one value which is giving me an symmetric arch. For the angle it´s 90° max what makes complete sense to me. So I thought I´d need fields for hight and with of the arch but I can only give the span which is giving me the same value for hight & width.
When I place a cylinder I can give a value for the ovality but for the cylinder hull I can´t so I´m not even able to build what I need from that.
Do I miss something or is it a problem to configure an eliptic arch?
Or is it maybe some sort of limitation in the student version?

Would be very pleased to get any help with that!

By the way I´d like to ask some more questions...

    1. I couldn´t figure out how I can delet a filter from a lamp without deleting the whole lamp. Is there a way?

    2. Is there any measuring tool included in polar capture that gives me the chance to draw a line from one point to another and find out what distance is in between (like I have in any CAD program)?

Thanks a lot for any help ´cause I´m really start to fall in love with capture and hope to go on with it.

    your removing the filter question:

select the fixture, press the spanner button and remove filter is one of the options on the menu

Dont know the answer to the measuring tool

Thank you Martin for the reply on the filters!

As for the arcs there is no limitation in the student version, the thing is your end result should maybe be accomplished by using more than one basic forms exactly as you implied for the elliptic arc.

Finally if you both go in the library of any capture edition and browse to "symbols" and then "measures" you will find the "angle" and the "distance" tools!

Enjoy Capture with us, as we are also in love with what we are doing!

Thanks for the help with removing filters! Stupid me...

About the Arch: I get you right that it´s not possible to give the arch a size and then manipulate it to get it elliptic?
I´m a little bit confused about it ´cause when I get it from the library it IS elliptic and just stop being so when I give a value for the span.
Going on on that one: It´s the same with the cylinder hull? No way to get it elliptic as one form?
So could you give me an idea how to build something like lancet arch?
I´ll keep trying it myself but in the moment I have no idea.

About measuring: I already found the distance tool but as I understand it´s just working as lable and I have to tell how long it should be right?

I´m looking for something that is telling me how long is the distance between two points in my drawing (like klicking on one point, move the cursor to another, release the button and get a line wich is telling me the with). Is the tool able to do that and I´m just to blind to find out how it´s working?

    Hello again,

hope I´m not going on everybodies nerves but I´m still looking for my "gothic arch".
Here´s a picture how it should look like to make myself clear:

And here´s what I already got:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s...4xs1rhwjk/L_BtIrYL4i

This "oriental arch" Is working fine but not what I´m looking for. The other one is close to beeing a success but on the left side where it´s looking good the curve isn´t coming as much down as I want it to and on the other side when I let it coming down enough it´s coming out of the Wall again.

I think it would be possible to create a curve myself using boxes and/or triangles but that would be so hours to spend an hundreds of boxes to draw and not easy to scale.

Still hoping it´s an easy task in the end and I´m just incapable to find out how...

    I´m happy about any suggestions...

When I´m at at it anyway...
In the Basic or Extended Edition is there some kind of Keystone Form? For sure it´s easy to build but one like that with each side length and the height of each corner possible to be manipulated would be a great thing to create alsmost all forms from one element...

For sure I have no idea how difficult it is to program something like that
Just thinking if it would be possible that´s for sure a great tool.

    Dear Paule,

The measurement tool does what you need. Place one aligned to the distance you want to measure and then doubleclick on the end of it to highlight it red. Then you can drag this arrow end to the destination point and see the distance. Keep in mind the arrow end can also snap.

Thank you for your CAD suggestions and you will be happy to hear that in the upcoming versions these cases will be covered.

    Hey Vangelis,

thanks a lot, measuring works fine now! Are there other functions working by doubleclicking? Maybe should be mentioned in the manual?!
By the way, I found the keystone form labeled as speaker. Not possible to be manipulated as I wished but still a good form!

I´m still going on with my church and the archs and would still be happy about any suggestions!
Think I´ll have to make compromise. Maybe I´ll send you some pics when finished could become something cool.

    With best regards

    Hi Paule,

The double click is slightly hidden, but it is a general concept in Capture (and other softwares). You can also double click on objects that are part of a group as well as on assebled fixtures (scroller + fixture + yoke) to select the individual.
