    Hello,

With the new version of the GrandMA2 (V2.9.0.7), the connection to Capture with the MANet2 protocole required a MALighting Hardware. But for Wysiwyg and ESP Vision, this restriction doesn't exist (MA develop specify DLL for them).

They explain this difference of politics by the fact that Capture give insufficient garanties, it seems possible for them to use Capture to transmit DMX with grandMA onPC2 without MA Lighting Hardware.

It is discriminative for the users of GrandMA2 desk and Capture.

I think it's important to say our disappointment with this limitation.

The history behind this is that MA originally only made drivers specially for ESP and WYG. When other softwares like visualizers and mediaservers also needed to receive MA-Net, they decided not to write specific drivers for everyone, so they made a new general driver which is known as the sniffer. This sniffer was then given to all, including Capture. Since this sniffer allowed receiving DMX without MA hardware present, it was possible to exploit it to control real shows with MA software without any MA hardware being present. This security problem was addressed with version 2.9, where the sniffer DLL stopped receiving MA-Net unless hardware is present. ESP and WYG do not suffer from this problem because the old specialized drivers for them were not discontinued.

The problem isn't in Capture's insufficient warranties but that Capture and other softwares use the same sniffer and MA don't want to make one especially for Capture. While we find this understandable, it also creates problems for our users and therefore we are in communication with MA in hope to convince them to prioritize finding a solution to the problem.

and i think if users of capture and GrandMA2 send remarks to MALighting, this can help you.

    Hi Lars,

I agree with Pascal: Capture users should voice their dissatisfaction with the policy of MaLighting.

Why not send a common message to all users to explore their displeasure about the Malighting policy ? ...

The more of us to support you, the more it will help put pressure on Malighting to write a specific dll for Capture.

    Regards

Our recommendation would be that you all write direct to MA on their forum. There is already a topic there on this subject - if you join in there I'm sure that will help!

We will take into consideration "organizing" it somehow.

I have registered my complaint with ACT lighting here in the US- they are the distributors of MA Consoles and provide technical support.

Unfortunately, at this point Capture is close to useless for me since the MA2 is my primary console and I use visualization BEFORE I get onsite with with a desk to build quick palettes, check angles et cetera. I have done the last two projects on MA3D instead. I prefer Capture for its accuracy and complete library. I understand that offline compatibility with MANet was never guaranteed, but its unfortunate that I feel my investment in the Capture Extended license was a bit short sighted.
