I just made my show in Capture Extended. Came down to the lighting office and connected my computer to the ION with an ethernet cable. Brought up channel 1 on the ION and nothing happened. I tried using all the different Interfaces but I'm confused on how to actually make the ION work with the program. Figured the program out just fine but I'm really missing something here on how to get them to talk. I enabled "out put" to a visualizer and also have the loop back adapter going as well. Thanks

Some help is offered on our console connectivity support page. Apart from the options in the Ion (for which we will have to refer you to ETC's support/documentation), all you should need is to make sure that:

    • Capture universes are patched to the external Ion universes (should be automatic normally)
    • Fixtures are patched to DMX channels
    • You have a view in Live mode.

Thanks Lars I have tried all of those things. It looks like the Ion is transmtting but no universes are showing up in Capture. I tried sACN as well as ARTNET to no avail. I pinged the computer and the console and they are transmitting. Turned off wireless and firewall,I even brought my IT guy over and we worked on it for two hours and still nothing in the external universes. Running windows 7. Any idea what could be the problem?

Since you are running Windows, you can always try sACNView to verify that the computer is receiving valid sACN. That way you can determine if the problem is in the Capture configuration or if it is a networking/ION issue. You can download it at: http://sacnview.sourceforge.net/

Likewise, you can also use one of the many Artnet sniffers to verify your Artnet configuration. I personally use Artnetominator. You can download it at: http://www.lightjams.com/artnetominator/
