    Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the Capture suite, so you can expect to hear from me often in the foreseeable future. That also might mean I'll be asking some stupid questions, that you may have answered on here before. For which my apologies, but here goes anyway...

I created a showfile using Martin Vipers in version 2.11.23, and rotated them 90 degrees along the Y-axis in order to have them in the plot the way the fixtures are hung in real life.

Now with the update to 2.11.25, every time I open the showfile, a pop-up opens offering to update project fixtures, among which are the Vipers. By now I've stopped confirming this update, because the most noticeable effect of it is the Vipers are rotated back to their default angles, like how they were first entered into the plot from the fixture library.

So, is this normal ('cause i'd hate it to be), and why does this happen? What functionality am I missing if I don't update the fixtures (none that I can see, to be honest)?

    Thanks,

    Erik

    Hi

No that is not normal. You will be asked to update the fixtures if there are newer versions available in the library file and I guess there was an update to the Vipers. It should only ask you the first time as then they will be updated! It also should not change the orientation or move anything...

I don't know what is going on but the only thing I can think of trying is to re-install Capture.

Sorry I can't be of more help. It can be a little quiet around here sometimes, so for something like this it might be better to email support@capture

If you don't notice any difference with the updated fixtures then it won't hurt to carry on with the old one until the issue is resolved.

It does only ask me once: what I meant was I never saved the show with the update applied, since redoing the orientation is a bit of a hassle. Too many fixtures...

That said: I do think it's kind of weird that I had to change the orientation in the first place. Most fixtures nowadays, and certainly all Martin heads, have an arrow on their base, clearly denoting their proposed hang orientation. Now that doesn't mean you shouldn't hang them differently if you want, but I would think that that would be a nice starting point for fixture profiles in a visualiser software.

    Thanks,

    Erik

I don't know why it moved/re-oriented the fixtures when the library file was updated, that is odd... and annoying.

However, it's really not too difficult to rotate them back again. Select one Viper, click on the first red icon that is a sort of square and then you can select all by fixture or layer and rotate them all in one go either with the rotation grip or by typing the value in the design window. Job done.

As for the orientation when you first insert it... not sure which way the arrow on a Viper faces but when I insert one in my plot it has the power at the bottom right of the fixture if you look in Top view. If you rotate 90* in Y axis then from Home position they will tilt across your stage rather than up/downstage, is that really what you want?

Actually, I think I know what happened here...

The update to the library file for the Vipers was probably to correct their default orientation. When you first inserted them they were tilting across the stage right? So I guess the 90* rotation is on top of the default, they changed the default so that they would face the "right" way in the first place and that tracked through. So you have to rotate them back once and then everything should be cool.

    Hi,

I can confirm that we had corrected the pan offset by 90 degrees in the library, which is what prompted the update. As has been pointed out, you can select multiple fixtures at a time and use the "hollow" part of the rotation anchor to adjust them all at a go.
