    Hello all,

i had the pleasure to get a short introduction / presentation into capture by Lasse at the pro light and sound in Frankfurt. Unfortunately I was under serious time pressure (not Lasse, he took every time asked for!). So some questions remained unanswered or popped up later.

at the moment, visualization is only second row in my needs. What I do need is paperwork (plots) and documentation (reports, focus lists, colour gel counts instrument counts, etc). Now obviously the so called industry standard on those purposes is vector works and lightwright.

The only thing: I don't like to learn three softwares, plus the costs are extreme. Reading the features, capture seems to do the trick, or do I miss something here or get wrongly?

so my question: are the plots created by capture comparable to vector works plots? Does capture import vector works files?

are the reporting facilities of capture compare able to those created by lightwright? Where are the differences?

how do the reports look like?

thanks for bringing some clearness into this,

    best wishes

    Johannes

PS: I had the pleasure to see capture visualization in action at a training at ETC headquarters in Germany. Absolutely amazing!

    Hi Johannes,

VectorWorks is more specialized into paperwork than Capture is, so you may want to make sure that there isn't something specific in there that you need. Apart from that we do consider our paperwork comparable.

Capture does not import VectorWorks VWX files since it is a proprietary format. You can export in DWG from VectorWorks though, which the Extended Edition of Capture can import. You can do block replace of fixtures to Capture's library fixtures after that, although patch information cannot be transferred that way.

To understand what Capture's paperwork looks like, I would recommend that you download the demo version and one of the sample project files. Then change one of the views to paper mode and / or check out the reports and plots from the Design tab.
