    Hello,

I has yet to be able to connect Capture to any of our MA systems. I have tried Ma-Net from a MA-2 Lite to a PC laptop, and tried doing PC-PC, and same PC.

The manual and this forum has talked about right clicking in the external universe tab to configure but i just get a spinning wheel for 5 seconds and then it stops. I have tried multiple IP addresses with no luck. Does anyone have a step by step sheet for connecting to a MA2. I am running MA2 3.0 and capture 2.11.26.

Also is there functionality to run capture and MA on the same laptop. I would love to be able to pre-program on the road without needing two computers.

    Thanks,

Update: I have tried connecting to an M1 to see if maybe it was an MA2 issue. Set art-net address on capture to 2.0.0.2, on local area connection, with wireless disabled. Console (M1) was addressed to 2.0.0.1 and tried on both full broadcast and unicast with no luck. i have an artnet device showing up with an address of 0.0.0.0 named capture, and occasionally one shows up with the proper address of 2.0.0.2, but still no two way connection with capture. whenever i try to set captures artnet setting from auto to local area connection and restart, it just reverts back to auto.

I also tried it going through a switch to the MA2 Lite. IP 192.168.1.43 for the desk, and 192.168.1.30 for capture. Started the MA-net session in the lite and went to connect on capture but capture would just spinning wheel until it timed out.

    Hi EvanB,

When you right click in the "External universes" view and the spinning wheel appears, does that happen right away or after you have chosen the "MA-Net" option?

And since you don't mention it - have you made sure that you don't have any anti-virus software running that could be blocking network traffic? And that the Windows firewall is off (or that you've added the correct exceptions)?

    Also check:
    - If using MA-Net that you're using the correct version as there were MA-Net changes with 2.9. If you are using a version before 2.9, you must change this in the Capture options under the Connectivity tab.
    - If using MA-Net, keep in mind that it will only work if you have DMX enabling MA hardware connected. This is a limitation from MA's side.
    - If using ArtNet, please also make sure to set up gateway and subnet masks properly.

    Thanks,

i got the MA2 Lite hardware is now talking to capture over Artnet no problem. not really sure what the problem was but just doing it over again about 10 times and it now works all the time.

My only remaining question is if there is a way to connect capture to MA2 OnPC on the same computer, so i can program on the go. i know for example i got MA OnPC to talk to MA 3D on the same computer over MAnet, but i can recreate that with capture. Also running MA 3.0.0.5 will i still run into the MAnet not sending DMX without hardware?

    Thanks,

    Evan

    Hi Evan,

You can connect to MA2 OnPC on the same computer, but only if you have hardware. Unfortunately this goes for version 3 as well. In effect if you want to program on the go, you'll have to tuck a node in you backpack and have a way of powering it.

Well that kind of sucks, tho i understand why it is in place. If i were to roll back to a copy of 2.8 or earlier would i end up being able to connect? and do you know of any plans for a system of connecting to just capture without the hardware, like some sort of direct connection without streaming DMX?

    Hi Evan,

Yes, if you roll back to 2.8 it will work. Our MA-Net connection is already "direct" though and it is MA who have chosen to enforce these restrictions out of security concerns. We have expressed our dislike for this to them on numerous occasions, but their decision still stands. I would recommend that you communication your dissatisfaction to them.

Then i do plan on it.

in the mean time i guess i will need to roll back to 2.8 when i want to program/train at home, which is what i was hoping to do.
