ILDA control of Laser Projectors..... Why can't I do this?

Hi guys, I just purchased Capture Solo edition and so far it's amazing.

One thing though, why can't you send ILDA messages into Capture in order to visualise the laser projectors. LaserAnimation and Pangolin are PC only programs and require special DAC's to control the lasers. Why haven't Capture supported the ILDA open laser standard? I am an OSX software developer and would love to use capture to visualise the laser projectors from my custom OSX software. Surely it couldn't be too hard to do considering how many other protocols are supported from Lighting Control.....? No? Yes? Would love to hear your thoughts.

    Regards.

    Hi,

The answer to "why haven't you" questions is almost always "well because we did other things so far". Having said that, we are considering adding support for ILDA files to the build-in "video players" in Capture.

Hi Lars, thanks for the prompt reply. I hope you didn't interpret my tone in the last voice as demanding i'm just curious as to how I can make use of the lasers in Capture without having to use another piece of 3rd party software considering i'm already writing Laser software for OSX.

Great to hear that ILDA support is on the horizon. Once the video players are able to play back ILDA files then could there be a possibility to pipe a realtime ILDA feed into capture? Or are there any other ways you could suggest that would allow me to drive the lasers in realtime from a custom C++ application? Appreciate the advice.

    Hi,

No worries. We get the "why haven't you XX" question frequently and grab every opportunity to explain it all comes down to priorities.

We are working on an extension to the open CITP/CAEX protocol to allow for live laser feeds. Unfortunately I cannot give you a deadline at the moment, but if you could send us a mail to support@ referring to this thread, perhaps we could get in closer contact?
