    Hello

I am having problems with importing a sketchup 3D model

When I import I don't seem to have control over the scale of the imported model in that the model is in cm and capture reports it as inch.

Also it imports all layers separately instead of 1 model.

It is more than likely user error but I think Ive tried everything but i still get the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Hey Mark,

    It's not you! :)
Importing Sketup models can be finicky at times. It think it depends on the model and how it was originally generated. Sketup has some funky object manipulation and file organization going on within the program.

When you say you don't have control with the scale...do you mean when you change the scale in the properties window of the imported object from 3', 3.4" , the layers go all over the place and not uniform? I've had to grab each individual object layer and re-size one at a time to the proper scale, select all layers and make them into a group (Ctrl G). From there, I can pitch and roll the object as a whole.

It's good practice to immediately select the imported object and change its layer(s) to just one. Say you imported a piano object and noticed in your layers folder that you have new ones. With labels like; Furniture, Layer0, Structure and so on, all for one object. I always have a default layer called Additions. I always select the new object, go to its properties, and change the layer to Additions and delete the unnecessary ones to tidy up the layers folder.

You may also notice in your Materials folder, a bunch more materials than you had before importing. Some without labels at all and some like , Color_118 and so on. You can always purge this folder to get rid of the useless ones by right-clicking on the Materials folder and choosing Delete unused materials. You can also locate where the used materials are located on the object by right-clicking on the material and choose Select using objects. That way you can give it a name you understand.

I've been using Capture for some time and have not found a Sketup model that imports as one layer. Maybe it's a Capture thing? Who knows? But it's nice to have the ability to dissect the model from the layers/parts you don't need, or want in Capture. " Nice lamp base, but I hate the shade it comes with. I'll delete that and make one of my own".

Quite a bit of rambling here, but I hope I was able to help out in some way.

    Regards,

    Hi,

Capture generally splits object on import by layers, materials, groups and blocks. If you SketchUp file doesn't use any of these features you end up with one object for your entire import.

    Hey Everyone,

I am having some issues scaling an import from skp. I am off by 2 ft when I test the measurement using a cynlinder object to measure the scale of an arc truss is inside the skp file.

I am using capture 2023, and have read of the 2024 update for this issue, can someone please provide any guidance to solve my problem?
