I'm new to both Sketchup and Capture.

I've built a model of a theatre in Sketchup, and imported it into Capture. What's the best way to add materials?

If I add a material in Capture, it applies it to the whole model. Whereas I want the stage to have a different material to the drapes, etc.

I tried putting it in different layers in Sketchup, but Capture is still treating the model like one single object.

What am I missing? Should I be adding the materials in Sketchup instead, or is there a clever way to get my model to have multiple parts?

I'd like to know if it is possible to force the source models Layer set to be kept intact when importing models, it would make life much easier? (or could it be added as a new option?)

Currently I find it best to bring individual parts of a model in seperrately and then you can use Capture materials.

You can texture and colour your model in Sketchup but it's a bit hit and miss how well that survives import.

Hi,

Objects that are physically separated in SketchUp come in as separate in Capture. In addition to that applying different materials in SketchUp will separate these objects on import. You can also force object separation by using groups and components in SketchUp.

SketchUp does allow you to assign different layers within an object but this is not supported by Capture, each object can only have one layer.

So, if we group each item in sketchup that we would like to be individually editable in Capture? I will have to give that a try.

Thanks.

Have you contacted SketchUp support to ask them how you could design separate objects in SketchUp so they could be separately imported in Capture?
