    Hi all,

I am looking at building a new PC to use mostly for Capture pre-vis. It will likely be used for other software such as Vectorworks or Cinema 4D as well. We have some large projects coming up that will require some hefty processing power to run. I currently have a file running approx. 450 moving head fixtures and about 1500 RGB LED fixtures in a 3D space covering more then 300square meters. My current hardware is struggling to render this at any reasonable frame rate. My work around for this is to run different show files for each fixture type.

    My current hardware is:

    Video Card - Geforce GTX 108Ti 11gb

    CPU - Intel Core i5 8600k 3.60GHz

    SSD - 960 EVO 500gb NVMe M.2

    RAM - 16GB DDR4 2666MHz

    MoBo - Asus Prime Z370-A

So I am wondering what hardware setups other people use for these large projects?

As you can probably tell my hardware is more setup for a 'gaming' computer so would anyone be able to recommend a more professional solution?

    Thanks in advance!

    Joe

As a general rule I would say that in order to get the best performance of Capture, you should go to the best graphics card that you could afford. As a good referenced point for the capabilities of your hardware, you may find PassMask Software's video card benchmark pages for high end GPU's useful. A PassMark G3D mark of 2000 or more could be considered a general minimum performance requirement for Capture, but in practice, the actual requirements will vary a lot depending on how you use Capture. Of course, the rest of the machine should follow respectively in order to take full advantage of graphics card capabilities.
