    Hi

I recenIy bought the smallest version of capture because I would like to make the switch from WYSIGWYG to capture (mainly because the WYG dongle does not work with the new mac M1 and M2 processors) Therefore I am trying it out, and to some extend that also means trying out the forum/how to get help.

I have posted a couple of questions in the forum over the last couple of days but I have not gotten any feedback. It the forum monitored? (Hello is anybody out there???)

I have used WYSIWYG, sketchup and fusion360 and more or less they al work the same way. And there are some basic CAD features that I cant figure out how to do in capture when I am drawing.

If the point in Capture is that you should draw a set or weird lightbar setup in an other piece of software thats fine by me I just need to know. (And also need to know how to convert imported lines into bars that lights will snap to). There are quite a few things that are not covered in the manual and I have not been able to find thorough videos on these topics on youtube.

I hope that somebody can help me or point me in the right direction.

    Best regards

You are posting in the Community Support forums, where users are helping other users, while the forum is hosted on our side. For support from a Capture reprenative this can only happen over email and the information is described here.

To answer your main question in this post, Capture does not contain the CAD features found in sketchup for example, and usually you would import complex 3d models through the supported import formats. For more basic designs this might not be needed since our design functionality in many cases could suffice. I hope it is clearer now how Capture could be positioned in your workflows.

The Capture manual is not the most elaborate, but it covers almost evrything (very short). To see everything in action, please have a look at the excellent youtube tutorials. Have a look here: https://youtube.com/playl...7OHbGRYKorp9Fx

I have seen al the videos but there are things that I can not find any infomation about e.g. the "convert lines into pipes". (Edit->Model->convert lines into lines) Maybe this tool does something else then I think it should do and thats why I cant get it to work but I dont know because I cant find a description of the feature anyware.

But I will send capture a list of my questions once I have played enough with the software.

    From the documentation:
This commands converts all lines to pipes. This is useful for converting line-based drawings of truss constructions to solid geometry as it could then be seen in Design views in Live mode.

The pipes created are merely hollow cylinders that do not assume any of the specialised functionality that come with actual trusses, such as snapping between trusses or fixture location association.

If your source file has the pipes drawn as pipes (as you can in Vwectorworks and Wysiwyg), it is best to import the files into Capture as an mvr. At least you'd have the right geometry.

Otherwise draw your trusses/pipes over the lines and merely use them as a guide.

It is useful to have actual pipes or trusses in your Capture model, to make sure your reports and fixture positions are all matching up.
