We have multiple licences of Capture, some are Duet, one is Symphony. I experimented with creating a large show on the sinfony license, then opening the show on the duet licence, make a few changes and see what happens when you try to save the file. The result was a bit unexpected and from the warning message I could not fully understand the implications.

    What I changed (in Duet):

    - I added measurements to the drawing, to show xy positions of some fixtures

    - I moved some fixtures around

The result (opening it back in Symphony):

    - I got a warning, saying that not alle changes could be saved

    - The measurements were all there in the right positions

    - The fixtures that I moved stayed in the old position

    - The patch above the second universe (which I had not changed) was removed from the file.

    My questions are:

-What would be the best way to warn a user. Maybe better on opening the file?

    - Should you be able to do certain things only (like printing and editing reports and plots), but nothing else?

-Should you be forced to do a save as... to avoid actually loosing data?

Indeed the dialogue that pops up stating "The project contains features that cannot be saved and will be left out!" could contain more information of what will be left out. These are for example in your case all the extra universes besides the first two universes that your Duet supported. We will take it into consideration for future updates/upgrades to see if we could make it more informative.

As for doing specific things only, or a save as prompt, then that could be in a sense a feature request to be considered.

I am not sure the dialog should be any longer (as most people do not really read those dialog boxes, me included). maybe it can conatin a link to the online manual, with more details?

Is it possible to put a warning as soon as you open the file, stating what you can and cannot do and another when you are about to save the file, maybe suggesting/forcing a save as... instead of a save in place.

Is it possible that you were not just opening the file in different editions, but also different major version (ie. 2022, 2023 etc)? Because some of the limitations you describe shouldn't really happen between editions.

You are correct. I own a Symphony version of 2022 and a Duet version 2023.
